The site is a private day and boarding school for 380 (grades 9 - 12) high school students and 170 faculty and administration Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, seven days a week. The program operates twelve months a year (52 weeks). The General Manager will assume responsibility for the oversight and direction of the school's dining service operations to include purchasing, receiving, menu execution, employee development, payroll management, and reporting.
This unique situation requires a candidate with previous experience in college dining or comparable private high school setting. The candidate for this highly visible position will possess professional personal presentation and excellent communication skills, as they will have daily interaction with the students and faculty at all meal periods. It is key that the hired individual has high regard for the student population and develop programs to engage them creatively with forward-looking menus that acknowledge current trends in food and nutrition. Further, successful candidates should have a foundation of working culinary expertise, strong catering management skills, and a history of leading culinary and management teams to success. Lastly, strong organizational skills are paramount as they will assume responsibility for the scheduling and execution of multiple events such as alumni and homecoming dinners, faculty lunches and meetings, and departmental caterings regularly.
Qualifications
* Customer-focused, service-oriented, \"can-do\" attitude
* Excellent communication and organization skills
* Professional, front of house presentation
* Problem-solving/delegation ability
* Computer proficiency for ordering and reporting
* 5 to 7 years experience in private school/college dining or similar venue
* Hospitality Degree, Catering Management or Certifications preferred
Responsibilities
* Form positive relationship with client, faculty, and students to meet organizational and financial goals
* Organize and direct all caf service activities, catering and special events
* Management and administration of the unit to include budget adherence, purchasing, invoicing, payroll, inventory, and reporting
* Develop and maintain a sustainability program
* Keep a clean and safe work environment and follow all outlined health and safety regulations concerning food handling, equipment use, and personal hygiene
* Staffing activities will include coaching, counseling, training, hiring, and firing
