The DPG encompasses two business units, the Power Discrete & Modules BU and the RF/Microwave Discretes BU. Markets the PDM & RF/MW Discretes BU's address include: alternative energy, industrial, medical, defense, commercial aviation, communications, embedded systems, motor control, power solutions, sensors and security.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for Developing RF modules, pallets and MMICs to meet system RF / Microwave multi-function Amplifier/Mixer/Switch & associated source generation requirements with emphasis on Commercial & Military Communication/RADAR & Instrumentation market for the Lowell, MA division. The Principal Development Engineer responsibilities include simulation, design and evaluation of GaN, Si, & GaAs technologies through Load-Pull and model based analysis. This position works closely with Wafer Foundry, Applications Engineering, Product Engineering and Marketing to fully understand the requirements for and the environmental, application and technical performance of the respective product. The Principal Development Engineer will then use this information to establish the design of the integrated product in support of the key selected customers.
Responsibilities:
* Detailed characterization and performance trade-off analysis of either GaN, Silicon, & GaAs-based RF modules & MMICs
* Design and simulation of matching circuits and topologies using state-of-the-art design tools ADS and/or AWR and ability to do EM simulations.
* RF module & MMIC component design and development using manual/ automated / simulated load pull to meet target performance
* Provides the Objective test specs for the key parameters, including the module, individual MMICs and packaging.
* Analyze & Present the data on the finished product to confirm performance to specification and any adjustments needed.
* Leads characterization and test plan development and implementation as well as initial product data sheet generation.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
* 10 years+ experience required; 15+ years of related experience preferred.
* Education: BSEE required, MSEE preferred.
* Knowledge and experience with GaN, Si, GaAs or Wide Band Gap semiconductors.
* MMIC Foundry - Must have 5+ years of experience working with commercial & military Silicon, GaAs and/ or GaN foundries and knowledge of processes and selection to meet design objectives.
* Design Tools - Extensive experience with using the Modeling and RF software applications packages ADS/AWR and the use of the automated/ simulated Load Pull system for analysis of the transistor/amplifier performance.
* Extensive experience with MMIC/Module/pallet design, modeling, analysis and testing for circuit blocks like amplifiers, switches, mixers and microwave integrated systems and bias circuits.
* Solid state MMIC design experience in discrete modules & MMIC with emphasis on wide bandwidth, high-efficiency and high-linearity performance and understanding of system implications.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Experience with supporting technical conferences and giving presentations on the developments within the area of expertise.
* Ability and willingness to provide program, customer and production support.
* Prior experience with high-power transistor design in linear CW and pulsed applications preferred. Must be familiar with linearity standards and measurements such as ACPR, EVM, etc and Pulse characteristics.
Preferred Qualifications
* Proficiency in Cadence (Virtuoso, SpectreRF, ADEXL) preferred but not essential.
* In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of packaging of modules and MMICs.
* Prior experience with system and component design that operate in arrow and multi-octave bandwidths up to Ka-Band is.
